Lucille Vlahos, a teacher who was a pillar of the Greek Orthodox community, died June 21 of natural causes, her family said. She was 93. Mrs. Vlahos was a devout worshipper and driving force at Annunciation Greek Ortho- dox Church in Sacramento for nearly seven decades.

A bilin- gual elementary school teacher, she began translating Greek lesson plans into En- glish and helped found the Sunday school in 1952. She served as a teacher and director for 40 years and helped establish the parish li- brary and archives. She volunteered at commu- nity events and was active in Greek Orthodox educational and philanthropic groups, in- cluding the Philoptochos La- dies Society, Order of AHEPA, Daughters of Penelope and the Board of the Or- thodox Institute at UC Berke- ley. She tutored schoolchil- dren and sponsored orphans in Greece and Cyprus. was always very fo- cused on education and help- ing people especially chil- saidhergrandsonDem- etre Haralambakis.

Mrs. Vlahos retired in the early 1980s after 25 years as an elementary school teacher in the San Juan Unified School District. She previ- ously taught at Theodore Judah Elementary School in Sacramento after starting her teaching career in Madera County, her family said. The only child of Greek im- migrants, Lucille Bahumes was born on July 3, 1919, in Denver. She grew up in Ne- braska and moved to Modesto during the Great Depression with her parents, who were hay dealers.

She graduated from Fresno State College and ined- ucation from California State University, Sacramento. was a big deal for her to go to said her grand- son Michael Haralambakis. the only child, she could have been a hand on the farm. But her father wanted her to pursue Mrs.Vlahossettled inSacra- mento in 1945. She was mar- ried for 39 years and had two children with Elias Vlahos, a businessman who owned and ran Kastorian Furriers at 10th and streets downtown.

Her husband died in 1983. She was a gracious woman with a strong will, her family said. Don graduated from South San Francisco High School in 1968 and received an degree from Skyline College. He was employed as a Business Representative for the Laborers Local Union 261 in San Rafael until his retirement in 2009. Don was a former resident of South San Francisco; relocated to Novato in 1978; and moved to Napa in 2002. He was an avid gardener and Giants fan. Don is survived by his son Randy and his wife Melody Buffington, daughter Stacey Buffington, ex-wife and friend Nora Buffington, niece Anna Benard and her children Ivanna and Giovanni, and brother Michael Buffington.

Don is also survived by his grandchildren Drake, Brogan, Jalen, and Kyra. Charles earned his Art Degree at CSUS. He was a passionate artist whose work was shown in local galleries. He appreciated and he produced many abstract works, primarily in mixed media. He enjoyed traveling and visiting museums at home and abroad. Charles served in the U.S.

Navy and received the Viet-Nam Service, Good Conduct, and National Defense Service Medals. He retired from the State of California, after 35 years of service. He pursued his artistic interests and spent time among family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. She was the first girl of what would be their seven children. She grew up in Ayr and after graduating from High School She helped her family on their farm, and at a Barn Dance she attended with her five brothers, she met Larry Long, who was the Bandleader.

Larry was from Page, ND. He asked Carl, Norman, Philip, Walter, and Bob if he could court their sister, and Larry and Anna fell in love. In 1938 Anna followed Larry to California where they were married. They had three chil- dren, Patsy Stafford (Ron), Peggy Wedge (Bob), and Tom Long (Beverly). After death, Anna met and married Al Ford (now deceased), father of five chil- dren, Pat DeLange, Ronald Ford, Maureen Allen, Richard Ford and John Ford, grandfather of many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren to whom Anna was Grandma.

She and Al traveled to every state in the U.S, much of Canada and to She was a mem- ber of the Elk Grove Garden Club, She maintained a vegeta- ble garden and flower beds until recently, and passed her love of gardening and home cooking on to her family. For safety reasons and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, there are strict limitations on how steep the paths can be built, Knotts said. Geographic challenges in- clude steep slopes, rock out- croppings and gullies. While the hope is that the vast majority of the route will be dedicated, mixed-use paths away from automotive traffic, some stretches might have to share vehicle roadways, Knotts said. While many of the missing pieces of the loop are on the less-populated east shore of the lake, challenges and gaps remain to the west. Negotiat- ing a path around Emerald Bay, for instance, will be cost- ly.

The more encompassing bike master plan also looks to add paths that connect popu- lation, job and recreation cen- ters that may or may not over- lap with the loop route.
